BASTARDY - A TRIBUTE TO UNCLE JACK CHARLES

  • 30 Hargraves Street Castlemaine Australia (map)

Rated: MA15+

Dur: 1:28

Dir: Amiel Courtin-Wilson

Starring: Jack Charles

TR is proud to present a tribute screening of BASTARDY, the documentary that played a part in returning indigenous elder the late Uncle Jack Charles to the wider public consciousness.

Provocative, funny and profoundly moving, BASTARDY is the inspirational story of a self-proclaimed Robin Hood of the streets. For 40 years and with infectious humour and optimism, Jack Charles juggled a life of crime with another successful career - acting. Since founding the first Aboriginal theatre company in the 1970s, Jack performed with Australia’s most renowned actors and directors in feature films, TV series and hundreds of plays.

Filmmaker Amiel Courtin-Wilson followed Jack over seven years - gradually blurring the line between director and accomplice as Jack continually traversed the criminal and acting worlds. However, when the law finally caught up with Jack, he was forced to decide if he could leave the life of crime behind. BASTARDY is the story of one man’s journey into the light.
